Please join us in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and honor the rich heritage and incredible contributions the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community have made to the field of Mathematics and the world. In recognition of AAPI month, we are highlighting the remarkable accomplishments and lasting impact Dr. Shiing-Shen Chern (1911-2004), co-founder and founding director of MSRI, made on the Berkeley community and mathematics.
Additionally, the violence against the AAPI community these past few months has focused our awareness on the long history of discrimination and racism toward the people of AAPI descent, and while we celebrate the AAPI community this month it is important to reaffirm the commitment of the Berkeley Math Community to stand in solidarity with the AAPI community.
