Congratulations to Berkeley's 2012 Putnam Competition Top Finishers!
Congratulations to Justin Ahmann, Dawei Ding, Yan Duan, Indraneel Kasmalkar, Woojin Kim, Shiyu Li, and Zhang Yuming for finishing in the top 200 (out of 4,277 contestants) in the 2012 Putnam Mathematical Competition held on December 1st. Special congratulations to Indraneel Kasmalkar for earning Honorable Mention honors.

Ian Agol Receives 2013 AMS Veblen Prize
Ian Agol of the University of California, Berkeley, is receiving the 2013 AMS Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry. The Veblen Prize is given every three years for an outstanding publication in geometry or topology that has appeared in the preceding six years. The prize will be awarded on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings in San Diego.

Congratulations to sophomore Shiyu Li for placing Honorable Mention in the 2011 William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition!  She ranked in the top 50 out of 4,400 students from 572 colleges and universities across the United States and Canada.

Bharath Ramsundar wins 2012 Departmental Citation

Congratulations to Bharath Ramsundar, winner of the 2012 Departmental Citation for Mathematics.  This recognition is bestowed on the top undergraduate mathematics scholar in the graduating class. The name of the citation winner will be placed with those of earlier winners on the Departmental Citation certificate in 1015 Evans.
